This past Friday was the “Light Up Okotoks” event. It’s the official holiday season starter held in our town; the shops along the old Elizabeth Street are all open late, the Fire Department has their trucks out, fire pits are all along the street and hay wagon rides are taking families around town. Unlike the past years, where we have had temperatures of -30C, this year the weather was mild at a balmy -5C, which meant the old downtown area was very busy.
As every year, we all congregate around the big tree at the Olde Towne Plaza, with Santa making an appearance and children signing Christmas songs before the countdown begins. The photo below was taken just before the Christmas lights were switched on and as you can see everyone turned their attention towards the tree waiting with anticipation for this years light display.
