Spring has not quite yet sprung

This photo was taken last spring in our garden and it makes me realize that Spring is not that far away. In fact, you could be forgiven for thinking that it has already arrived, as the temperatures here in Southern Alberta are positively warm for February. We are used to having blizzards, -20C temperatures interspersed with the occasional warm Chinook winds at this time of year. Instead we have no snow on the ground, +8C during the day (and sometimes even double digits!) and the birds are confused (as are some of the plants).

While it is very nice not to have to trudge through 2 feet of snow, shoveling it off the driveway and paths constantly, and driving on the equivalent of an ice rink, it does feel very odd, and somehow wrong, to have Spring-like weather for the past month or so (now watch a blizzard come in and prove me wrong!).

  1. I know how you feel. Living in the woods of Northern Alaska, I too am wondering when will winter start! In late November we had three weeks of heavy snow and mild cold weather but that was it and we have had spring like weather since last year.
