About Me

Hi and thank you for visiting!

I am Simone, a mother to a teenage daughter and wife to a mad Englishman. I am originally from Germany, now naturalized British and living in Canada. I spent 20+ years being a British Army wife following my husband around the world.

I love to travel and we have been fortunate enough to have seen some great places, but we haven’t even scratched the surface yet. Our goal is to retire early, in around 3 years or so. Our plans have changed since I started this site. Originally we were going to sell up and buy a motorhome and travel. We have since decided that we want to create a base from where we can travel. So, the plan is to move to France, somewhere further south, but still within an hours drive of the beaches. Going back to Europe means we are within easy reach of a lot of locations that can be reached for far less money than is currently possible from Canada.

I started this blog in December 2012 to take part in the 52 photos in 52 weeks challenge in 2013, set up in the wonderful Elements Village forum, which unfortunately closed in  May 2015. However, a group of us have gotten together to create a new home for the Villagers, and we can now be found at www.photoshopelementsandmore.com. Come and check us out!

I have always enjoyed taking photos, but have never really taken it any further than your typical holiday snapshot; that was, until I bought my first DSLR in 2009. With the help and guidance of some friends (you know who you are) I learned that owning a DSLR was nowhere near as scary as I had always imagined. At first I tried to take photos of almost anything; if it stood still long enough it would get photographed. I still haven’t really found a style so to speak, but instead of worrying about that I just enjoy taking photos of things that move me. I have also come on in leaps and bounds in the post processing of my photos and enjoy creating scenes through photo manipulation.

My other passion is history, all kinds, whether it’s local or world history, I love it all equally. I seem to have a talent for retaining bits of interesting and not so well known facts about history, which does come in handy at times.

Aside from listening to music (die hard Foo Fighters fan) and reading books there really isn’t much time for other hobbies.

So, in a nutshell, that’s me.

I hope you enjoy reading some of my posts and enjoy the Journey!

Welcome to the challenge of 52 weeks of themed photos, Simone. I’ve admired your work in the PET Forum since you joined and look forward to what you post here. I’m in my second year of the 52 themes and love the themes this year – can’t wait to get started. You certainly live in a picturesque part of the world, that close to Banff and the Rockies.

  2. Thank you Linda. Like you, I cannot wait to get started and I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s photos over the coming year.

Welcome to the wordpress world of blogging. I have been a member of Elements Village for many years. Although I have used the full Photoshop for years now I still recommend Elements for folks on a budget and who are new to photography. Thanks for checking out my blog and know that your site is now saved in my list of favorites. – Bob

    • Hi Bob, thanks for stopping by. I have been using PSE for the past 2 years now and am slowly getting the hang of it. Blogging, as you can see, is still fairly new to me. I look forward to following your entries.

  4. Very cool story and what a great dream. When you are ready to visit the world in your Winnebago, we will be with you through this blog. I think it is a great idea. We only live once!
