Hi and thank you for visiting!
I am Simone, a mother to a teenage daughter and wife to a mad Englishman. I am originally from Germany, now naturalized British and living in Canada. I spent 20+ years being a British Army wife following my husband around the world.
I love to travel and we have been fortunate enough to have seen some great places, but we haven’t even scratched the surface yet. Our goal is to retire early, in around 5 years or so, sell everything, buy a motor home and tour the world, starting over here with North America, and then working our way around the world. My dream is to travel the world whilst blogging about the stories of the people and places we meet and visit, and making this a full-time job.
I started this blog in December 2012 to take part in the 52 photos in 52 weeks challenge in 2013, set up in the wonderful Elements Village forum, which unfortunately closed in May 2015. However, a group of us have gotten together to create a new home for the Villagers, and we can now be found at www.photoshopelementsandmore.com. Come and check us out!
I have always enjoyed taking photos, but have never really taken it any further than your typical holiday snapshot; that was, until I bought my first DSLR in 2009. With the help and guidance of some friends (you know who you are) I learned that owning a DSLR was nowhere near as scary as I had always imagined. At first I tried to take photos of almost anything; if it stood still long enough it would get photographed. These days I am trying to find my style and it seems landscapes and wildlife are starting to emerge as the subjects I am best at. I do try and push myself to move outside of my comfort zone, but that is more for my own learning and enjoyment (although some of this work may make it onto this blog).
My other passion is history, all kinds, whether it’s local or world history, I love it all equally. I seem to have a talent for retaining bits of interesting and not so well known facts about history, which does come in handy at times.
Aside from listening to music (die hard Foo Fighters fan) and reading books there really isn’t much time for other hobbies.
So, in a nutshell, that’s me.
I hope you enjoy reading some of my posts and enjoy the Journey!
