Sunrise return

It’s been a while since I last posted, which is mainly due to considering if I should continue with my blog.

Is blogging really still relevant in this day of social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, where posts swish by, constantly vying for likes and comments? I have asked myself this question for some time and I am sure I am not the only blogger to do so. My blog is only small and has just over 320 followers, most of which don’t engage at all, and I suspect the majority of them no longer use this platform. That being said, people do still read blogs, otherwise platforms like this would no longer exist. I don’t like to bow to defeat, so have decided to continue this blog. I might change things around a bit in the next little while to freshen things up, but I do like sharing my photos and creations even if only a small number of people read the posts and engage with me (I am not going to let that defeat me!).

So, here is a beautiful sunrise my husband and I got up early to see on our recent vacation to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Guardian Angel

I think my guardian angel will have had a few heart attack moments over the past year and no doubt some “she cannot be serious” moments! Here is hoping I can give him/her a bit of a break this year.

Princess’ Day Out

This is my own design for a change; I thought it was time to ditch the tutorial and see what I have learned so far.

Rainbow clouds

This photo was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest the other day; how to make clouds rain in your home.

Early morning planet spotting

Last weekend my husband and I got up before dawn to try and see the alignment of planets, which is currently best visible just before dawn. Armed with coffee, binoculars, my camera, a blanket, and wrapped up warm we made our way to our chosen spot. We decided that the best place to view the planets was higher up with an uninterrupted view of the horizon, which just happens to be in the middle of our off-leash dog park. As we had left our dogs at home I dread to think what the couple of early dog walkers must have made of us. After all that though we never did get to see the planets, as a large Chinook arch had swept in and robbed us of a clear view. However, there was a silver lining (pardon the pun) to all this; I ended up with some nice sunrise photos.

Escape to my happy place

I was going to post something completely different today, but the day did not turn out to be the way I had planned.

It turned out to be a very sad day today in work and so I needed to escape to my happy place tonight: sunrises and sunsets. So instead of my planned post, here is a sunset from our stay in the Cognac region in France last year.

I look at this and am thankful that I am able to enjoy the sight of sunsets and sunrises.

When Chinooks collide with Sunsets

Chinook winds are a weather phenomenon those living in the Southern Alberta/Calgary area await every winter with some impatience. These warm winds can bring the temperatures from -15C to +15C within hours and are the reason why Calgarians are able to ditch their winter outfits for a few days in between the freezing winter temperatures. These winds come from the Pacific coast, cool whilst travelling up the western slopes of the Canadian Rockies and then rapidly warm as they come down the other side on the eastern slopes. With this comes the famous Chinook arch, which gives everyone the first clue that warmer weather is on its way (and some unfortunate people suffer with headaches as the Chinook approaches).

A couple of weeks ago we had such a Chinook arch in the evening, just as the sun was setting, and the result was a fabulous display of clouds and colour.

Happy New Year Everyone (a little late – I know)

Sunrise above the clouds

Sunrise above the clouds

Forgive me for the lateness, but after the Christmas break, which included a quick trip to Las Vegas (of that more in a future post), I fell ill with a serious case of a sinus infection and have not really felt up to doing much. Today is the first day that I feel good enough to actually switch on my laptop and catch up with everything and everyone.

So, I hope you had a great break and that the new year will bring you health and happiness.
